THE LOADING DOCK SCHOLARSHIP

The Founders of the live event industry golf tournament, The Loading Dock Classic, are passionate about giving back to the industry. The funds raised at the LDC event each year fund a live events industry-based scholarship program.

The Loading Dock Scholarship program aims to provide funding and resources to educate, elevate and expand our thriving local industry. We want to make change while creating change makers!

This submission and selection program provides the opportunity to tailor the scholarship to the recipient(s) and the needs of our industry.

Two scholarship opportunities exist through the Loading Dock Scholarship Program:

The Engage Scholarship (Youth/Student)
The Elevate and Innovate Scholarship (3+ years employed in the industry

The Engage Scholarship for Youth/Students

The Engage Scholarship (Youth/Student) goals are:

To build a much-needed base level education for entry-level positions with an immediate focus on technical trades and production support
To introduce the live event industry to local educators and counsellors at the high school level
To introduce the industry and all of the possibilities within it as a viable, exciting and rewarding career path
To expand our “best in the country” talent pool and keep them in our city!

Scholarship Offer

$1500 financial contribution towards a post-secondary tech program. Paid in cheque so they may use it for housing, food, travel, or tuition.
Could be used as support for paid internships with LDC suppliers.

Terms for Eligibility

Grade 12
Successful completion of Tech 25 or 35
Submission of the Scholarship Application
Resume of past work
Interview (To be taped if possible, signed media release required)

Acceptance Process

Selected by a vote of the Loading Dock Scholarship advisory board
Scholarship acceptance by the student
Successful completion of PVA tech program
Successful completion of a high school diploma
Letter of acceptance to post-secondary tech program OR a signed contract agreeing to internships with LDC suppliers
Speech (Video if unable to attend in person) for following year’s LDC

The Elevate and Innovate Scholarship (3+ years employed in the industry)

The Elevate and Innovate Scholarship (3+ years employed in the industry) goals are:

To educate, elevate and inspire our current local industry professionals in their chosen field
To support professionals in their personal growth within the industry with a goal to better the entire industry
Expand our local capacity of innovation in live events
To foster mentorship within the community and retain our collaborative environment

Scholarship Offer

financial contribution towards a relevant educational experience as decided by the Committee annually

Terms of Eligibility

Candidates must be an employed industry professional with 3+ years of experience in the industry.
They must reside in and service the local industry including the mountain regions and the Calgary area.
They must be and prove they are passionate about the live experience industry and the growth of it locally and internationally.
They must be able to provide personal and professional references.
Must be able to travel nationally and potentially internationally.
Have the capacity to be a positive representative of our local industry on a global level.

Acceptance Process

Complete the application.
All submissions will be reviewed and participants contacted for additional information and interviews. One-two advisory board member(s) will conduct the initial interview(s) and vet candidates.
The Loading Dock Scholarship advisory board will meet to narrow the search and selections will be made and announced.
Applicants will be expected to determine the opportunity, state their execution plan and how the funds will be used. Afterward, they are required to provide a follow-up report and share their learns and successes at next years Loading Dock Classic and/or at another industry gathering.

Apply today for a chance to attend C2 Montreal this May! The Loading Dock Scholarship includes a 3-day pass and $1000 for expenses.

The scholarship recipient must:

be available May 22-25, 2019 to attend C2
publicly present at the Loading Dock Classic and at the Scholarship Showcase
prepare and submit a blog post to be posted on the Loading Dock website

DEADLINE to submit or nominate someone is April 1, 2019! The scholarship recipient will be announced April 7, 2019.
